A young Manteno woman was recently arrested for prostitution and dealing drugs. Manteno.org does not typically report on stories like this but I have made an exception due to the nature of these crimes. Before I begin I just want to say that everyone mentioned in this post is innocent until proven guilty.  Brianna L. Bonds (21) was arrested on Friday night in an undercover prostitution sting operation in Kankakee. She was also charged with selling 19.5 pills of Xanax. The drug dealing charge was related to an event that took place in December of 2011.

Brianna Bonds was one of two women arrested on South Washington Avenue in Kankakee. An additional two women were also charged in the sting but they were on South Schuyler Avenue. All four arrests took place between 8:00 PM and 11:30 PM on Friday night by the Kankakee police.

Apparently the authorities have received many complaints about prostitution in the area. This prompted them to run a sting operation in which undercover agents approached the suspected prostitutes.

Brianna Bonds, of 124 Norway Drive in Manteno, was the only one of the four that lives in Manteno.

Prostitution has long been a problem in Kankakee. Even Bourbonnais, Grant Park and Bradley have had to deal with this issue. Some say that prostitution is a victimless crime but there are several solid arguments against that theory. Most prostitutes are in this profession to support their drug habits. Prostitution has also been linked to increases in violent crime. Last but not least is the transmission of STD’s like HIV.

Working on a street corner on a Friday night in Kankakee is extremely dangerous. These girls put themselves at great risk for little compensation. These risks include being raped, beaten, robbed or even murdered.

Innocent Until Proven Guilty

Brianna Bonds has only been charged with these crimes. These allegations are simply that until proven otherwise in a court of law. Judging someone for a crime that they may not have even committed would be wrong.
